Wrinkles become a concern for almost everyone as they age. So much so that there is a giant market out there of creams, gels, and ointments that promise to erase the years and leave you with younger, smooth, wrinkle-free skin.
But even without the products, there are some natural methods to removing wrinkles as well. There are a couple of things to know about wrinkles that can help you stay on top of those crow’s feet and laugh lines.
1. Avoid sugar.
When you eat sugar, your body creates something called advanced glycation end products, or AGEs. These AGEs actually hurt the proteins in your body that help give your skin elasticity and fullness. Without collagen and elastin proteins, your skin can be left looking wrinkled, saggy, and dull.
2. Your wrinkles are related to your genetics.
Somethings you just can’t avoid and genetics is one of those. It largely determines how soon wrinkles will appear and how likely it is that you will get wrinkles.
3. Avoid overexposure from the sun.
The sun accounts for about 90 percent of your skin’s aging. Other studies have shown that wearing sunscreen regularly can make you 24 percent less likely to show signs of skin aging.
4. Drink up!
Drinking water and staying hydrated can keep your skin from getting that sunken, tired look. Studies haven’t shown any relation to better skin and over consumption of the recommended 8 glasses a day. But dermatologists say that staying hydrated will help you maintain your skin’s elasticity.
5. Eat your fruits and veggies.
It seems like fruits and vegetables are linked to every good health outcome. The antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals in fruits and vegetables work wonders for your skin and studies have seen less signs of aging and wrinkles in people who regularly load up on the stuff.
